Why I Teach Auditioning

Why do I teach the skill of auditioning?

I look at auditions like one might look at climbing trees. We size up the tree, we come up with a plan for where we want to end up, and we come up with a plan for how to get there.

The audition happens. We either end up either at where we had planned, or we don't. If we don't reach our goal, we do it again.

The reason I teach people how to audition is that I don't want them to have to start on the ground every single time. Wouldn’t it be awesome if every tree we climed, every audition we took, we started out closer to the top than we did the time before?

This is why I encourage people to work on their audition skills, even if they don't have an audition in their immediate future. Taking an audition is actually a lot harder than climbing a tree, and it takes a lot of practice.

So even if you're not working towards orchestra auditions right now, it’s a skill you want to master. It takes most of us years to truly excel at this, so don’t wait until a few months before the audition for your dream job.

If you want help learning to climb that tree, you and I should talk. Click here to find a time on my schedule that works for you.

Happy practicing,
